Liquid Sidewalk Chalk
Sooooo...I realized I haven't posted any fun projects that I have done with my littles recently...Oops! Well, to make up for it, here is a great recipe for Liquid Sidewalk Chalk that my kidlets have been loving all summer when we are outside, they just go to town painting all over the driveway and sidewalk! It is a nice and easy activity that gives you a few hours of creative fun with your kids. The best thing is that you can make as much of it as you want and any color too! What could be better?!? Ok, let's get to the recipe:
Liquid Sidewalk Chalk
1 cup water
1 cup cornstarch
food coloring (any colors you desire!!)
Mix the water and cornstarch together until combined. I then separate the mixture into cupcake tins or those smaller plastic cups you find in the paper products aisle of Target or Wal-Mart. Then, get our your food coloring and add a few drops to each tin or cup and mix well. As a side note, for all of you that only have the basic red, yellow, and blue on hand, you can mix 'em up for some more color choices:
yellow + red = orange
red + blue = purple
blue + yellow = green
****and don't forget just the basic white you already made!****
Grab some paint brushes, foam brushes, or even leaves and pine cones and get your little Jackson Pollock outside for some crazy good fun!

This looks fun but since you are using food coloring how easy is it to get it off the driveway? my homeowners assoc would be on me if it did not wash off.
@Julie- The liquid chalk cleans up just like regular sidewalk chalk, just some soap and water and you are good to go to get it off little bodies and clothing.
@Becky-This comes off just like sidewalk chalk, a hose or a little rain and it disappears to the sad disappointment of your little artists!!

looks like a slight typo - I am assuming in your directions you are supposed to "mix water and cornstarch together until combined"...then divide and then add in food coloring.

It has never stained our clothing but I would still be careful if you have a special outfit!!!
We would love to try this for a Canada Day celebration for the kids. Would it work to use this in 'ketchup' squeeze bottles? Or is it too thin??
It is pretty watery but you could try a squeeze bottle, you just may need to make lots of it as I could see my kids squirting it all out in .02 seconds! :-)

I just made this and me and the kids loved it even my husband got in on the painting action. I will be making this as a project to do at my daughters next bday party thank you so much :)
I put a little extra cornstarch in, to make it a thicker consistency. It made the color a little darker and the paint kind of 3 dimensional :-) I'd say it comes off of driveways easier than it comes off of skin, lol. Don't do this on a picture day! It takes some scrubbing and some time to wear off of little hands and legs.
We just did this...too fun! We even had fun having a 'paint fight' at the end, then a water fight with the hose to clean up! Thanks for the tip

We tried making this to gift...The cornstarch keeps solidifying on the bottom :0 Any tips?

it dries as chalk, so you just wash it off with water.
Does it come out of the cupcake tin?
