Cloth Napkins {Tutorial on Kirtsy} and Giveaway Winners!!

Hi everyone!  I hope you are having a great weekend!  We have been having so much fun, we did our very first campout with the kids yesterday, holy cats that was so fun!  We set up our family-sized tent in the backyard, grilled out, had s'mores (minus the marshmallows thanks to me assuming we had some at home in the pantry when we didn't, oops!) and then we had fun playing Crazy Eights while using glow stick necklaces as our light source.  It was the perfect baby step to us actually going camping at a campground.  I think we might be ready to take all the kids before summer is over, oh how we have been dying to go camping every since Noah was born!

PSA Essentials: Review, Giveaway and Cupcake Topper Project Idea

Can you believe this!
TWO giveaways in one week!
That's just crazy talk but you so deserve it :-)

PSA Essentials sent me one of their self-inking custom stamps with patent-pending Peel & Stick technology which makes the stamps completely interchangeable and asked me to review it for them.  It sounds like a pretty cool stamper, right!

So what did I think?

Umm...do you see this custom made AND interchangeable Smashed Peas and Carrots stamp in the Christi font?  Yeah, this product is pretty freakin' awesome :-)

The outer circle of words, the 'www.smashedpeasandcarrots.blogspot.com' part is separate from the inner circle of words, the 'Smashed Peas & Carrots' so I can stamp using both outer and inner parts of the stamp together or separate!  I love this for my Etsy shop packaging!

The stamper is really easy to use to say the least.  It has a really smooth mechanism for easily changing the ink pad, it stamps with hardly any pressure and gives a nice even colored and vivid inked stamp.

There are a ton of interchangeable Peel & Stick stamp sets to choose from too!  Each set (Datenight, Carriage, Superstar, Mom's Calendar are just a few I was able to try out) comes with one outer ring stamp and 9 inner circle stamps.  So the stamping possibilities are endless...anyone here good at math?

Here's a peek at how easy it is to change out your stamps.  Just wipe the ink off of you stamp with a wet cloth and then peel the outer ring first.  If your stamp were to ever lose it's stickiness you just run them under water and it is as good as new...cool!

PSA Essentials also carries a huge variety of award-winning stamp inks, including these way cool two-ink sets.  This way your outer ring stamp can be one color and the inner circle stamp can be another!

I am helping to throw a baby shower in a few weeks and the ink pad with the Lime and Pink struck me as the perfect color combo for a perfectly sweet baby girl shower!  'Pink with a Twist'..I love the theme already!  Can you guess what fun kinds of food and drinks we will be serving?

I took the 'It's a Girl' Peel & Stick stamp and made a whole bunch of cupcake toppers.  I love how sweet they turned out!

I used a 2 inch circle punch to cut them out and then taped them to the top of toothpicks, voila we have cupcake toppers!  Now we will have some pretty decorated pink-alicious cupcakes to enjoy, oh the cuteness...make it stop!

Alright...so now that you have seen a fun project you can do with these stamps it's time for the giveaway!

How to Make Treat Cones {A Tutorial and Free Template}

I thought I would share with you how I made those fun color coordinated treat cones that we served up Pirate Booty in for the kids at Eloise's First Birthday party I showed you in this post here.   They were the perfect pop of color we needed on our tables!

I used lightweight scrapbook paper in aquas and reds to help pull the Vintage Cookies and Milk color  theme together.   I found my scrapbook paper at Joann's and Michael's.

Treat Cones

You will also need a pair of scissors and clear tape
Scrapbook paper, wrapping paper or card stock...just don't use anything too thick or heavy as the tape will not hold it together very well!

This template will make about a 5 inch treat cone as your end product.  I found this to be the perfect size for little hands as well as it is perfect for a single serving of any treat...popcorn, dry cereal, marshmallows, etc.

It should look like the picture above, there will be one template per printed sheet of paper.  Cut out your template.

Trace around the template onto your paper of choice.  I used a permanent marker so you could see my lines but I would recommend using a pencil, this way your lines won't be noticeable if you don't cut exactly on the traced lines.  If you are using 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper you will be able to fit four cones per page, you will just have to finagle it a bit.  I used a 12 x 12 piece of paper above so just follow how I did it to maximize your paper!

Next cut out all your cones so you can put them together assembly line style.  I used both scotch tape and transparent tape in my assembly.  I felt that the scotch tape was a bit more durable and better for the inside as it is sort of opaque and not quite transparent.  I liked the transparent tape for the outside of the cone as it is a bit more transparent, lol...I guess that was obvious :-)

Grab a cone and overlap the two ends like the picture above.  I made sure that the edges were even and smooth at the top of the cone.  You should have a slight gap at the bottom which is supposed to be there.  I originally intended to stick lollipop sticks in craft foam and then slide the treat cones on top until my crafty hubby went ahead and made our treat boxes instead.  He's so awesome!

Go ahead and place a 4 inch piece of scotch tape in the inside and press it so it lays smooth like the picture above.

Then place a 4 inch piece of transparent tape on the remaining flap of paper on the outside of the cone.  Press both pieces of tape down making sure that they are holding well.  See you can't even see the transparent tape :-)

But if I turn it so you get a bit of glare on there you can see how I placed it...so sneaky!!

Then just fill your treat cones with the snacks of your choice and enjoy all the prettiness that they add to your next party!!  Color coordinating happiness I tell you :-)

Enjoy!

 XOXO,

Eloise's First Birthday: The Vintage Milk and Cookies Party

Here is a peek at Eloise's First Birthday party we threw for her last weekend.  The theme was 'Vintage Milk and Cookies'.  I chose this theme because I liked the idea of the goody bag for our guests at then end of the party being a whole spread of cookies that each guest could choose and bag up themselves.  We had close to 50 people attend Ellie's party...all such wonderful and amazing friends and family!  We really wanted each one of them to be able to take something home that any age could enjoy!  Who doesn't love cookies, right!!

Being that Eloise is number 3 in our child line up, we felt we wanted to do something extra special for her big day.  We rented one of these huge bounce houses as our main children's activity.  What's a child's birthday party if there isn't some sort of fun entertainment!  The birthday cake one seemed appropriate, don't you think?  Knowing we would have lots and lots of little friends who were coming to help celebrate with us and many of them are Noah and Penelope's ages this seemed to be the perfect idea and it truly was an absolute hit!

Here's our little birthday girl bouncing away the night before her party!  I thought she might not like the unstable feeling of it all but she adored this thing.  She gave us lots of smiles and giggles as we bounced her around!

After coming up with the 'Vintage Milk and Cookies' theme, I chose my colors.  I just knew I could not have this party without that vintage aqua and red (and pink) color combination I love so much.  Here is a look at the invitations we mailed out.  Obviously I changed some of the info for privacy sake but you can get a really good idea of color, font and overall look.  The picture on the right is the backside of the card.  I had them done via Vistaprints and I love the heavy cardstock feel of them.  I go back and forth between real invitations and using a site like evite.com when I throw a party but in the end I love the idea of getting to put a real invitation in Eloise's memory box as a keepsake.

I always loved the aquas and reds in Bliss by Bonnie and Camille (and I'm so, so excited for their new line Ruby!!) that I thought the line would be just perfect for Ellie's party theme.  Of course, this fabric was great inspiration to make a special outfit for the birthday girl too!  I used Rae's Baby Sunsuit tutorial to make Eloise's sweet little bubble romper and I also used Rae's Peekaboo Bonnet pattern as well.  I thought it was just fitting for the party.  Thank you Rae for the inspiration, everyone loved her sweet little outfit!

I incorporated more Bliss in the decor in the form of pennants that we used to decorate all around the inside of our porch.

In keeping with my vintage theme, I of course had to use lots and lots of mason jars in the decor.  Oh, how I love mason jars, there is definitely no shortage of them in our house!  I filled the big quart sized ones with all sorts of different blue and red candies and placed them near our food/buffet tables to add those pretty pops of color.

We ended up having 3 separate tables for the food and drinks...I was a little taken aback by this but we really did need a whole table set aside just for the 'cookie bar'!

Here is a peek at the full cookie table.  This was where all the sweets were...and some extra popcorn snacks for the kids!

We had 6 varieties of cookies/bars to choose among for the goody bags.  Chocolate chip, Snickerdoodle, M&M, Oreos, Sugar cookies, and Rice Krispie bars.  I even placed the M&M cookies in a giant mason jar, that had to be my favorite way to display cookies!

Each cookie had a tag or tent card with their name and the cookie jars were all decorated with coordinating ribbon.

I added fun blue and red jimmies to the tops of the Rice Krispie Bars and the sugar cookies and used only red and blue M&Ms in the M&M cookies.  I love trying to coordinate the food into the color theme as well!

These are the cookie bags that each guest was to fill with all the cookies their hearts could desire!  I ordered these bags from Shop Sweet Lulu and printed the stickers at home using Avery labels (I'll talk more about those in another post!)  I placed them in this sweet vintage red colander along with some toast tongs so that each guest could pull the cookies out of the jar a bit easier.

Here is Eloise's cake!  This was decorated by one of my dear friends Wiwik!  She is the most amazing cake decorator and floral designer you'll meet.  When she offered to decorate Ellie's cake I just could not turn her down.  I think it turned out perfect...so, so beautiful!!

Lastly, on this table I added a tray of Pirate's Booty in coordinating treat cones to help balance out all the sweets!  My husband made two treat cone boxes for the party...I love them so much!  All we had to do was set the cones in the box and fill...so easy!  The cones were made from scrapbook paper I found at Michael's and Joann's.

We offered three varieties of milk at our drink table...chocolate, strawberry and 2%.  I placed an old vintage tray on the table with small 1/2 pint mason jars for the little ones to pour their milk in (we had more jars waiting in our kitchen for when these ran out, we just didn't want the table looking too busy!)  I bought the sweet red and blue striped straws at Shop Sweet Lulu too, I thought they were the perfect touch!

Other beverages we offered were cucumber water (love this stuff!  I always think it is so necessary to offer ice cold water on a hot summer day!) and strawberry lemonade as well as a variety of beers and Mike's hard lemonades for the adults.  I just have to give a huge shout out to my momma and dad who were the 'unofficial' party hosts :-)  They were always there chatting up our guests and making sure the beverages were filled and cold and the food was plentiful while Clif and I were helping the birthday girl make her rounds!!

Our other food table was loaded with goodies too!

I offered blueberries and strawberries, going with my blue and red theme again, in the cutest little cups (also from Shop Sweet Lulu!)

For more kid snacks, I put together little pink and blue cups with Eloise's favorite, plain Cheerios, and an all-time kid favorite, Goldfish...the kids loved these cups they could grab and then run outside to the bouncer.

We offered turkey pinwheels and hotdogs too.  What I loved about the hotdogs was that we wrapped them individually in foil so that they would stay toasty warm throughout the whole party.  It's funny but we actually got lots of compliments from our guests about how warm the hotdogs stayed until the very end!!

Since the majority of our friends who came have children and we knew all the kids would be hitting up the bouncer we tried to make our food grab 'n go friendly!  This way the kids and adults could just grab what they needed and run outside, you didn't really need a plate and a place to sit...although we had both readily available :-)

We also had a piñata for the kids which was another easy goody bag for them to have.  I love doing piñatas at children's birthday parties...eveyone gets soooo into it!

These were the goody bags I bought (again...Shop Sweet Lulu!) for the kids to stuff with candy.

This was our official baseball player striking his batting stance!  You can see his proud papa directly behind in the picture, so sweet!

CANDY!!!  We have CANDY!!

Eloise loved having everyone sing Happy Birthday to her, at the end of the song she started clapping!  She also was getting a little grabby with her cake as you can see in the picture!

I made Eloise's bib from from Jess's Bapron pattern here.  OhMyGosh this was so stinkin' cute, everyone LOVED it!  I used Michael Miller's Aqua and Red Dots in laminated fabric for easy clean up afterwards!

We let Eloise have at the WHOLE cake, I still can't believe we did that!  It was so fun to see her picking at it!  And no icing in the hair, I was in shock...everytime she eats she puts her food in her hair!

I made a few trays of cupcakes in a cone to pass out to our guests, these were great as there was no cupcake wrapper to peel and all the stickiness and crumbs that go with it.  I used my favorite marshmallow-y frosting, you can find it here...love this stuff!  It truly does look like it's real soft serve ice cream on top!!

WOW!!  So that's it!  This was one long post...sorry about that!
I hope you enjoyed seeing all the fun we had at Eloise's First Birthday!  I still can't believe my little baby is One Year Old!  We were so happy to have so many wonderful friends and family come and help us celebrate our little girl...hugs to you all!
I also have a few related posts that I'll try to put up later this week for some of the stuff you saw today.  Hope you are not birthday-partied out by now!

XOXO,
