Tiffany-Inspired Jewelry Bag Tutorial

OK, my bad...I never posted the little bag I gave these necklaces in...ugh, pregnancy brain is at it again! Hopefully, I will have my fully functioning brain back in a few months...wish me luck on that one.

Here is the cute little bag I made:

Pretty in Pink!

It was a pretty last minute sewing project, like say I did it the hour before we gave the gift! Noah was all 3-year-old-stubborn on being the one to give this particular gift and at what seemed like the last minute I thought to myself, 'I can just see him dropping the necklace and breaking those pendants to oblivion'...so I came up with this darling little bag.

It's the perfect size to hold a sweet little necklace or even a ring!

It reminds me of the little blue bag I have from my one and only piece of jewelry from Tiffany's which I adore...Thank You hubby!

Here is how to make a few of your own...a super easy project, it'll take you less than 15 minutes to make them I swear!

Tiffany-Inspired Jewelry Bag

3 x 7 inch piece of felt
1 inch piece of velcro
coordinating thread
sewing machine

**You could also use no-sew velcro or even hot glue to place the velcro on the flap portion so you don't see any stitch lines...I only had sew-on velcro in my hutch!

Cut your felt to 3 x 7 inches and then get yourself a 1-inch piece of velcro.

Center the soft-side of your velcro to the top portion of the felt, like the picture above.

Then, flip the felt over and place the rough-side of your velcro at the center top portion. So, basically the two pieces of velcro are on opposite sides and opposite ends of the felt.

Then, bring up the felt, lengthwise, to where it is folded over about 2 inches or so and sew each side in place.

To make it look extra cute, snip the edges of the flap slightly like the picture above.

Super Fancy!!

Then, just open up that pretty little bag and see what's inside...

Sometimes the best things come in little packages

Thumbprint Pendants for All!

I just wanted to let you know about some more Mother's Day gifts I have been making this week. I found the most darling tutorial for thumbprint pendants on The Crafty Crow. They are really super easy and they are the freakin' cutest things.

All you need is some clay, waxed paper, rolling pin of some sort, a toothpick and a little ones thumb and presto you have yourself the most adorable hand-made pendant. In the tutorial she says to make the pendant about 1/4" thick but I made mine much thinner, probably about 1/16" cause I knew I wanted to wear two pendants, one for Penelope and Noah (and a third itty bitty baby thumbprint sometime this summer for Bean III), and a 1/4" thick just seemed like too much.

These babies only took 30 minutes to make, from kneading the clay to baking in the oven. So, if you are still looking for a gift these are perfect cause you could really crank 'em out today or tomorrow or hey, even on Mother's Day morning. Here is a look at how I styled mine:

I used black satin cord here and two separate jump rings...LOVE!

Here I used a white satin cord and three jump rings, one for each pendant and one to connect them together to the cord.

And then I did this one using waxed cord and stringing both pendants through separately.

I LOVE them all!!

And I LOVE these guys:
Who wouldn't want to wear a little thumbprint pendant of these cuties!?!

OK, so maybe minus the chips in the mouth and the 'mom, I am NOT wearing my clothes today' fashion statement.

Glazed Fabric Button Ring Tutorial

Alright folks, here is a super fun and mind you extremely easy piece of jewelry to make if you are a little scared of making jewelry like I am.  A fabric button ring that can be customized with your favorite fabric scraps to match that perfect outfit or loved one!  The best part is that it has a thick coat of glaze on the top so the fabric won't get all wet and wonky after you wash your hands all those times during your hardworking day..it's protected fabric, how great is that!?!

I always love seeing all the cool fabric or felt flower rings out there (basically the only piece of jewelry I wear since I have two little ones that love to pull on necklaces and earrings) but the fabric part freaks me out...stinky, wet, moldy breeding grounds comes to mind...EEW!  I finally figured out that if you paint some glaze on top of the fabric it becomes ceramic-like and all protected.  Plus, it ends up with a nice shiny look to it too...Sweet!!

Ok, let's see what it looks like on me, the worst hand model on earth:

Pretty and shiny, eh?  (Seriously, what is with my hands?)

Ooooh, lovin' all the fabric color choices...the possibilities are endless!!

Ok, so let's make some shall we!?!

Fabric Button Rings

Your favorite fabric scraps in 2 x2 inch pieces
7/8 inch cover button kit
Adjustable ring blanks WITH pads
Paint brush
Pliers
Rotary cutter and mat

Your accomplices for this project...well, some of them anyways!

First, pull the hooks for the back part of the buttons with a pair of pliers

To pull the hook off, squeeze and pull the hook with your pliers...they should pop right out.

Then, follow the instructions on the back of the button package to cover your button.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!!

Then, get your Triple Thick Glaze out and paint one coat on your fabric.  Wait 10 minutes and then do a second coat...then let dry for 24 hours before you finish putting your ring together.

I put some toothpicks in a styrofoam ball to hang my buttons to dry.

See, the empty hook holes make the perfect toothpick holders!!

After 24 hours of drying time, take your ring blank and dab some hot glue on the ring pad.  Press your button on top and let dry till nice and tight.

Yup, right there on the ring pad...glue it up folks!

So pretty...

And customizable...

What a great gift idea...

For Me!

andthankyouverymuch!
