Rice Krispie Treat Fun - Part II {Eyeballs}
Ugh, it's raining here...again...and I just can't take it! I soooo want to take the littles out to play at the park or a pumpkin patch or well, really, anything outside...but it's just way too soggy! Yuck! On a more positive note, I do have to say that being stuck inside because of all this rain has been great for me to get those Halloween treat ideas out of my head and into the kitchen. So, my latest treat is a take on those rice krispie balls from yesterday's post...EYEBALLS! Noah really liked when I made these which kind of shocked me. I thought he might be a little freaked out by them but instead he actually liked them and thought they were fun to put up to his face as his own eyeballs...boys! And then he realized there was a mini m&m at the top and it was all "mom, more peaz?" over and over and over again...hey, at least he is saying Please!! Here is what they look like:
Cool, huh!?
So, to make these 'scary' eyeballs you need basically all the same ingredients you used for the Rice Krispie Pumpkins. See yesterday's post here. The only changes are that you need a bag of mini m&m's and only red food coloring (make sure it's water based...see my picture below!)
Like the rice krispie pumpkins you will first make your rice krispie balls. Then melt your candiquik using the package instructions. Dip your balls into the white (un-dyed) melted candy coating evenly and let them dry on waxed paper. Next, you will melt your green wilton candy melts in the microwave and put them in a ziploc bag, cut off a corner tip and squeeze a bit on the top of each dry coated ball. Quickly smoosh it down with an m&m...you now have an eyeball with a pupil and iris!
Next, you will pour (drip, really) some red food coloring into a small bowl or cup. Take a toothpick and dip it into the food coloring. Then take the toothpick and drag it all around the eyeball making it look like red veins. I think the more uneven and asymmetrical you place them the more real they look!
Keep doing this to each white coated rice krispie ball making them all vein-y and gross looking! Wait an hour or so for the food coloring to dry so your littles don't get their hands all red cause that would be bad!
Hooray! Scary little eyeballs for your littles to munch on when they wake up from their naps! A perfect afternoon treat for a rainy October day!
A close up of an eyeball...so real looking, right!?
Oooh, scary aren't they!? Anybody have any visine?
